The Declutter Challenge

I was looking up decluttering websites for a friend (and myself) and came across a really cute one. You can read the whole article here: Real Simple Article

Here was my favorite line: “You can’t move forward into the future when you’re constantly sucked back into the past.” I always get down when I look through my memory box. All emotionally constipated. Not sure why. I narrowed it down to just one box this time around! YEA for me! But I see where she’s coming from. Anyway, it’s a short cute article.

Her challenge – get rid of 50 things, and make a list, writing down what you’re getting rid of. Magazines, even a hundred of them, only count for 1.

So, I’m going to give it a try. Here goes! 🙂

  1. Did you manage to find 50 things? I purged most of our house before we moved to Colorado… car loads of stuff went to Goodwill and it was nice. We then rented a storage unit when we got here and put everything that wouldn’t fit into our little rental house in there. Having a decluttered home is a huge relief.

  2. Kudos on the new picture and format. Lovely shot of the kids!

One on-line resource that I think is kind of helpful and fun about decluttering and organizing your home life is FlyLady. http://www.flylady.net I think is the address. BIG emphasis on decluttering and taking baby steps to simplify your life. Enjoy!

  3. Ooh! I could talk fly lady for hours! I got married when I was 19 and knew nothing about taking care of a home. Had never cooked, done laundry – nothing. That first year was a killer. Midway through my 2nd year I happened on flylady and she became my lifesaver.

Now, 7 years later, I’m not a perfectionist when it comes to my home by any stretch of the imaginations, but it stays livable thanks to her. I always do the dishes immediately, rather than throw them away because they get so gross (really!) My laundry is no longer a burden. I’m used to wiping down bathrooms and sinks. Overall, she gave me a plan. I baby stepped it, and I’m much better!

Whenever I get overwhelmed with how far I still have to go, I remind myself of where I came from, and it is very encouraging. 🙂
