Leaders Who Fear God

What does it look like when a leader fears God?

Jethro encouraged his son-in-law Moses to appoint men who feared God to help govern the Israelites. We should also appoint leaders who fear God, are trustworthy, and hate bribes.

To fear God, they fear Him above all things. Above the thunder and above the applause. Above the regret and above the pain. Above the rejection and heartache and brokenness. Above pride and self and unworthiness. Above whims and fancies. Above trends and popular opinions.

They are trustworthy. They do what they say. They do not lie. They keep their word. What they say is true. There aren’t hidden agendas or selfish motives.

They hate a bribe. You can’t buy their loyalty. They hold to their convictions. Regardless of the cost.

When we fear God and draw close to Him, we discover his heart in all matters. We seek His face to know our paths. Then, when we move forward with His blessing, we won’t fear the crowds and the noise. We can rest in His love.

May I be a leader like that. May we vote and hire leaders like this. What a difference that would make.
