If Cinderella raised sheep…

Picture me, standing in front of my full length mirror, 9 years old with long brown hair. I’m imagining that I’ve just been noticed by the prince. He calls my name. I turn to the mirror, take a long bow, and we make eye contact. He’s chosen me!

Now I’m older, still in the mirror, a hairbrush microphone clutched in my fist. I’m imagining that I was just cleaning in the back of the store, singing to myself, but Mr. Producer heard me singing and has called me out, center stage. I’ve been discovered!

These “Cinderella moments” dominated my make-believe world, and even as an adult, I sometimes dream of being called out as special.

That’s why the story of David struck my heart tonight. A ball had been called, all were invited, but the youngest was left home to babysit the sheep. Well, it wasn’t a ball, it was a sacrifice and feast, but the famous man of God – Samuel – was in town. This was a big deal!

The “step-sisters” if you will, David’s brothers, weren’t chosen. And then, from the fields, David is called in.

Yes, he is the one.

And my heart soars. Oh the feeling! I’ve imagined it hundreds of times! Have you? You matter! You are special, important, and loved. Someone has seen and knows.

It reminds me of the book “Do you think I’m beautiful” by Angela Thomas. God has seen me on the edge of the dance floor and has asked me to dance.

My friend, we are known. Loved. Chosen. The creator of the universe calls us by name.

Thanks be to Jesus who made all this possible!

Rest well tonight that in Christ, you are loved. 💕
