Genesis 1 is a very familiar chapter, but I read it with fresh eyes when I realized that in Christ, I am a new creation. In a way, it’s also a story about us!
My life was without form and void of meaning. Darkness filled my soul.
In an act of grace, the Spirit of God hovered over my life, and God said, “Let there be light.” And there was light! I was no longer in darkness, but I was present in the Light of Christ!
Now I’m being sanctified and set apart, like the water separated from land, and I’m growing fruit by the power of the Spirit. The goal is to multiply and fill the earth with God’s love, sewing seeds of the gospel wherever I go.
I’ve also been created with a purpose! I am God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for me to do. (Ephesians 2:10)
My life isn’t random. This isn’t a game of chance. Our world has been created and designed, and so have I. There is a day coming when all things will be made new. As trials and dark days come, this gives me hope!
